Western Australian Ice Racing hosted a Short Track Officials Education Weekend on August 23–24, 2025. The event was led by international ISU Referee Clare Taylor, who shared her knowledge on key aspects of the sport — including refereeing, penalties, track management, race safety, and relay officiating.

Our volunteers gained valuable knowledge on the roles of referees, starters, stewards, timekeepers, and lap counters — helping ensure smooth and fair competitions.

The weekend included a classroom workshop on Saturday, followed by a full on-ice race practice on Sunday. This gave officials hands-on experience in decision-making, race management, and applying ISU and Australian rules in real time.

This training has strengthened the skills and confidence of our officials and also ensures our skaters and volunteers will be “game ready” for Nationals in October.

The weekend was made possible thanks to the support of Australian Ice Racing (AIR), the Play Well Grant, and the generous contribution of Clare Taylor. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring this valuable development opportunity to life — especially our dedicated volunteers, whose enthusiasm and willingness to learn made the event a true success.8cf10dc7-ff92-4843-bc74-83e4c92b7c15
