What I Need To Skate
We will help you with some equipment such as skates and a helmet. We have club skates for all new people who come and try the sport.
Equipment for Speed Skating
INITIALLY - To get started
Long sleeves
Long pants
Full finger gloves
A hard-shell bicycle helmet
The club and association have a good range of speed skates available for use on a first-come, first-served basis.
Be sure to be at the rink by 6:30am on Sunday at Cockburn Ice Arena to ensure you are able to get skates in plenty of time to start skating on time.
As you become more experienced, you will be required to wear knee pads, shin guards, a neck guard, and an approved ice racing helmet. Knee guards are recommended even in the early stages of your training.
All skaters (including coaches) are to wear a helmet whilst on the ice during speed skating training - no exceptions! We take your safety very seriously.
